Envoy: Zangazur corridor to cut distance between Azerbaijan, Türkiye to 38 kilometers
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Türkiye Rashad Mammadov has said that the Zangazur corridor will cut the distance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye to 38 kilometres.
"The Zangezur corridor project is also important for Armenia to feel safe. The distance between Türkiye and Azerbaijan will be 38 kilometres after the opening of the corridor," Mammadov said in an interview with TRT Haber, Report informs.
He noted that it is important for the trade relations of Türkiye with Asia: "Zangazur corridor will provide a connection between East and West through Türkiye".
According to the ambassador, the Zangazur corridor is important for the development and future of Armenia.
"Armenia has been deprived of many projects over the past 30 years. These projects passed through Georgia, not through Armenia, and reached Türkiye, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. If Armenia stays away from this project, it will have no other projects left," the envoy stressed.
The Zangazur corridor is a concept for a transport corridor which, if implemented, would give Azerbaijan unimpeded access to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic without Armenian checkpoints via Armenia's Syunik Province and, in a broad sense, for the geopolitical corridor that would connect Turkey to the rest of the Turkic world.
The establishment of the Zangazur corridor and restoration of all economic communications will also increase the attractiveness of the region for foreign investors, experts say.
Despite the implementation of several important energy and transport projects in the South Caucasus for many years, the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict has negatively affected the business environment and left Armenia aside from the regional projects.
Now, as the conflict ended, regional countries have the opportunity for the full use of the economic potential of the region, to attract additional investments to different project implementations, which was not possible due to the conflict.
