Erdogan thanks Russia for helping victims of earthquakes in Türkiye
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed gratitude to Russia on April 27 for the assistance rendered to the victims of earthquakes in the republic.
“On behalf of my people, I would like to thank Russia for the field hospital it has set up in Hatay,” he stressed at the ceremony of delivering nuclear fuel to the Akkuyu NPP, in which he took part via video link from Ankara, TASS reports.
Recall that on February 6, earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred in the southeast of Türkiye. The tremors, followed by thousands of aftershocks, were felt in 11 provinces of the republic and neighboring countries, of which Syria suffered the most. More than 49,500 people died in Türkiye.
Hatay Province was the hardest hit by the February 6 earthquake. In the first days after the disaster, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations sent doctors and rescuers to Türkiye to clear the rubble.
An airmobile hospital was also deployed. A group of Russian rescuers worked in the province of Kahramanmarash and neighboring regions. On March 19, an airmobile hospital of the Russian Ministry of Health was sent to Hatay and sent to Türkiye to provide assistance to victims of earthquakes.
