Erdoğan: Türkiye stands firm behind Azerbaijan-Armenia peace push

29 May 2025 20:25

Türkiye is closely monitoring the peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and is actively involved in facilitating the process, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said.

Speaking to Turkish media, Erdoğan expressed keen interest in the progress towards a peaceful resolution between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports.

“We are watching developments with great interest, and the move towards peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Türkiye is also making the necessary contributions and is ready to continue this work. A peaceful settlement will benefit Azerbaijan, Armenia, and our country alike,” the Turkish leader stated.

Erdoğan also highlighted Türkiye’s efforts to improve relations with Armenia.

“When peace is achieved and dialogue established, all parties will see just how beneficial the outcome will be. We have no doubt about this,” he added.

Earlier this month, the former Press Secretary of Armenia’s Ministry of Defense Artsrun Hovhannisyan controversially claimed that a Nazi Germany victory in the Second World War would have been “more beneficial” for Armenia.

He argued that the Battle of Stalingrad disrupted Operation Gertrude, a plan envisaging an invasion of Türkiye following Germany’s capture of the Caucasus, involving Armenian legions.

Hovhannisyan suggested that, had the operation succeeded, German forces from Armenia and Bulgaria would have invaded and occupied Türkiye, with the plan also aiming to establish a united historical Armenia.
