Estonia condemns Iranian drone strikes on Nakhchivan, backs Azerbaijan

Estonia has voiced strong condemnation of Iran’s recent drone attacks on Azerbaijan, expressing full solidarity with Baku.

As Caliber.Az reports, in a post on his X account, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna wrote:

“Iran’s drone attacks against Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which damaged the airport and injured civilians, are a blatant violation of international law and the sovereignty of states.

Such reckless actions against countries in the region are unacceptable and must stop.

Estonia stands in solidarity with Azerbaijan and supports peace and security in the region.”

On March 5, drones launched from Iranian territory targeted multiple sites in Nakhchivan. One drone struck the terminal of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another hit near a school in the village of Shakarabad. The airport attack resulted in injuries to four civilians.

In response, Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, and Baku made clear that it reserves the right to take appropriate retaliatory measures following the drone attack.
