EU ambassador condemns Iranian drone attacks on Azerbaijan as unacceptable
The European Union has expressed strong condemnation of Iranian drone attacks on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Marijana Kujundzic, wrote on the X social media platform: “Iran’s drone attacks against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic region of Azerbaijan are unacceptable and represent a further escalation by Iran and increase the likelihood of spreading the war beyond the Middle East.The EU stands in solidarity with the AZ government and people,” she wrote.
On March 5, unmanned aerial vehicles launched from the territory of Iran attacked targets in Nakhchivan. One drone struck the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a school building in the village of Shakarabad. As a result of the airport attack, four civilians were injured.
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Azerbaijan stated that it reserves the right to a retaliatory strike.
