EU, Armenian military presence raises provocation concerns at Azerbaijani border

08 October 2024 17:14

Recently, EU observers stationed at the conditional border with Azerbaijan have intensified their activities, reportedly gathering intelligence materials.

Footage circulated by the media previously captured eight members of the EU mission alongside Armenian soldiers as they monitored Azerbaijani territories using surveillance equipment, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

This has led many to interpret the situation as a potential preparation by EU and Armenia for provocations against Azerbaijan.

The latest footage shows that today at approximately 1:10 PM, "observers" were seen alongside Armenian military personnel in two EU-branded Toyota vehicles, positioned on a road near the village of Kornidzor in the Goris district.

Meanwhile, four "observers" and four Armenian soldiers arrived in the area in a single "Niva" and a "UAZ Patriot" passenger car registered in Armenia, where they conducted surveillance of Azerbaijani territories using observation equipment.

This observation was focused on the area near the former "Lachin Corridor."

Such activity further indicates that the potential for sabotage should not be dismissed.

The incursions by EU "observers" alongside Armenian military personnel can be interpreted as a resurgence of revanchist forces in Armenia, an escalation of military preparedness, and a more obstructive stance in negotiations.

Furthermore, the EU's actions suggest a lack of genuine interest in fostering peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Instead, it appears to be encouraging Armenia’s revanchist tendencies and pushing it away from peace talks with Azerbaijan.
