EU, Azerbaijan discuss partnership within COP29
EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko has said that the EU hopes that Azerbaijan will achieve the best results at the session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Michalko made these remarks at a meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Energy, Chief Executive Officer of COP29 Elnur Soltanov, Caliber.Az reports citing the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry.
"The EU, as one of the main players in the fight against climate change, hopes that Azerbaijan will achieve the best results at the session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in November 2024.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the general cooperation issues with the EU and partnership within the COP29, as well as the results of the climate conference in Bonn. The importance of the EU’s constructive position was emphasised.
Moreover, the views were exchanged to organise the events related to COP29.
To recap, Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.
Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.
Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit.
The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
