EU funding internal infrastructure for energy security
The issue of energy security is of particular importance for the European Union, therefore funds are allocated for the creation of internal infrastructure.
Christina Lobillo Borrero, Director for Energy Policy, Strategy, and Coordination at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy, made the statement while speaking at Baku Energy Week, which started today, Report informs.
She noted that the European Union must replace Russian gas by 2027: "The crisis that started last year was twice as big as previous crises. Gas prices in the EU were quite high. Our dependence on Russian gas was 90 per cent. After the occupation of Ukraine, EU political leaders decided on a plan to replace Russian gas with more reliable suppliers".
Borrero stressed that strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan is in the political interest of the European Union: "We continue our cooperation with Azerbaijan".
