EU suspends new military aid for Ukraine amid Hungarian veto
EU leaders are suspending the development of a new 20 billion-euro military aid package for Kyiv, proposed by European diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas, due to Hungary's objections, according to the draft document of the EU Council.
The paragraph on new deliveries of military aid to Ukraine has disappeared from the text, which was submitted for consideration by representatives of EU countries, Caliber.Az reports via Politico.
The changes came after Budapest vetoed the previous version of the document during the last meeting of representatives of the community's states.
Politico's sources say that some EU countries, including France, are also happy that the approval of the military aid package is being delayed. Nevertheless, European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen may propose “more creative ways” to support Ukraine.
On March 3, it became known that the US had suspended deliveries of military aid to Ukraine. The EU believes that without military aid from Washington, the Ukrainian army will have enough weapons to fight at the current pace until the summer. France and the UK have put forward their own plan to end the Ukrainian crisis: it envisages “a one-month ceasefire in the air, at sea and with regard to the energy infrastructure” of Ukraine while continuing its military support.
