EU to approve new mission in Armenia to counter “hybrid threats”
European Union foreign ministers are expected to approve the creation of a new Partnership Mission in Armenia focused on addressing what Brussels describes as “hybrid threats,” a term commonly used by the bloc in reference to countering Russian influence.
The announcement was made by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas upon her arrival at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
“We are going to also agree on a new Partnership Mission for Armenia to fight the hybrid threats and FIMI that they are really encountering with there,” Kallas said.
In EU terminology, efforts to combat “hybrid threats” generally refer to measures aimed at countering foreign influence operations, cyber activities, disinformation campaigns, and other forms of non-conventional pressure. Similar EU missions are already operating in Ukraine and Moldova.
