Ex-envoy: Azerbaijan-Armenia peace deal set to boost investments in South Caucasus
After the signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, investments in the in the South Caucasus region are expected to increase significantly, former US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Matthew Bryza (2010–2012), has said.
Addressing the 1st Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2025) in Baku on September 22, Bryza stated that by strengthening its international ties, Azerbaijan is simultaneously strengthening its independence and security, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"Azerbaijan has changed significantly over the past 27 years. Since 1994, the country has been actively attracting foreign investors," he added.
Bryza noted that following the signing of the peace agreement, investment in the region will increase. The Zangezur Corridor is of particular importance. It has great potential for the development of the region.
The agreement, signed on August 8, in Washington, D.C., initialled by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the presence of US President Donald Trump, includes provisions for a ceasefire, diplomatic relations, and the establishment of the Zangezur Corridor, dubbed the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP).
This corridor aims to connect mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenian territory, managed by a US-led consortium under a 99-year lease while respecting Armenian sovereignty.
