Expert: Azerbaijani tombstones in Armenia under documentation
The goal of our research centre is to document the state of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia, particularly tombstones, and assess the impact of discriminatory policies on it, Khalid Niyazov, director of the Centre for Research on Western Azerbaijan at Baku State University, said.
During his speech at the “Continuing the Great Path” conference, he noted that research shows that Armenia is not only an occupying state, but also an actor carrying out systematic cultural genocide, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Moral, spiritual, material, and cultural values that define the ethnic identity of each people must be protected. The destruction of tombstones directly targets the historical memory, spirituality, and cultural heritage of the people,” Niyazov added.
