First Chinese trucks arrive in Azerbaijan under new Trans-Caspian pilot project PHOTO
Three cargo vehicles from China arrived in Azerbaijan as part of the pilot project "China-Europe Direct Express Crossing - Trans-Caspian Test Transportation."
This initiative marks the first test transportation along the route China-Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan-Georgia, aimed at optimizing international road transportation, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport told AZERTAC.
The project seeks to gather data on border waiting times, customs procedures, control inspections, and the transport infrastructure along this international route. The arrival of these vehicles was marked by a meeting attended by representatives from the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the State Customs Committee, Caspian Shipping Company CJSC, and Baku International Sea Trade Port.
During the event, the Chinese delegation accompanying the cargo vehicles was provided with detailed information on transit transportation through Azerbaijan. They were briefed on requirements for transporting various types of cargo, cargo transportation regulations, and other relevant procedures. Presentations were made to further elucidate these points.
This pilot project also signifies a milestone in Azerbaijan-China relations, as 2024 marks the first year that the two countries have exchanged permit forms for international cargo transportation by road.
