Five years pass since fourth missile attack on Ganja during second Karabakh war
Today, October 11, marks five years since the Armenian Armed Forces launched a fourth missile attack on Ganja, Azerbaijan's second-largest city, during the Second Karabakh War.
Caliber.Az reminds that on October 11, 2020, at approximately 2:00 a.m. local time (GMT+4), a ballistic missile struck the city center despite a humanitarian ceasefire that had come into effect a day earlier, on October 10. The attack, which targeted multi-story residential buildings, resulted in the deaths of nine civilians, including four women, and injured 35 others. One of the injured victims later died in the hospital.
The strike caused widespread destruction, damaging over 10 multi-story buildings and more than 100 other facilities. The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan initiated a criminal case under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code concerning the attack. Surveillance cameras of the Ministry of Emergency Situations recorded the moment of the strike.
During the Second Karabakh War, Ganja was hit a total of five times (on October 4, 5, 8, 11, and 17) by rockets and heavy artillery launched by Armenian forces. In total, these attacks killed 26 people and injured 175 others. The strikes also caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure and vehicles.
A total of 93 civilians, including 12 children and 27 women, were killed, 454 civilians were injured, a total of 12,292 residential and non-residential facilities, 288 vehicles were damaged and 1,018 farms were harmed in the Second Karabakh War.
