FM: Azerbaijan awaits Iran’s probe results into drone attack on Nakhchivan

Azerbaijan is awaiting the results of Iran’s investigation into the drone attack that targeted the Nakhchivan direction a day earlier, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said during a press briefing in Baku.

Speaking alongside Moldova’s Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi, Bayramov said the issue had been discussed directly with his Iranian counterpart.

“Yesterday, during a phone conversation with the minister of foreign affairs of Iran, we seriously discussed this issue. The Iranian side promised to carefully investigate what happened, and we expect the results,” Bayramov said.

According to the minister, Azerbaijan’s leadership has already taken action in response to the incident. He noted that the head of state had issued the necessary instructions following the drone attack.

“Diplomatic steps have already been taken regarding this incident, a note of protest has been sent, and I held a phone conversation with my colleague. The investigation launched by the Iranian side is part of the overall process. Azerbaijan’s security is under the strict control of the head of state,” Bayramov stressed.

Bayramov also said that during his meeting with the Moldovan foreign minister the two sides discussed broader regional developments, including the situation in the Middle East.

“Moldova has actively joined many of Azerbaijan’s initiatives in the field of climate diplomacy. During today’s discussions, I also informed my colleague about processes related to neighboring countries. I briefed him on the state of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations and our expectations. In addition, we exchanged views on reconstruction and restoration efforts in Karabakh, as well as the return of people,” Bayramov said.

He added that he also informed Popșoi about the drone incident.

“I also informed him about yesterday’s drone attack from Iran toward Nakhchivan, which resulted in four Azerbaijani citizens being injured,” the foreign minister said.
