FM: Azerbaijan withdraws diplomatic staff from Iran
Azerbaijan is withdrawing its entire diplomatic staff from Iran, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.
Speaking during a press briefing in Baku alongside Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi, Bayramov said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has decided on the complete withdrawal of the diplomatic mission from Iran, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"This process includes both the embassy in Tehran and the consulate general in Tabriz. Work is currently underway in this regard," Bayramov noted.
On March 5, drones launched from Iranian territory targeted sites in Nakhchivan. One drone struck the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another landed near a school in the village of Shakarabad.
The airport attack injured four civilians. Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Azerbaijan stated it reserves the right to a retaliatory response.
