FM Bayramov advances regional peace talks in meetings with foreign officials PHOTO

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov advanced talks on regional peace and security, bilateral ties and broader international cooperation during a series of meetings on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

In New York, Bayramov met with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and US Congressman Joe Wilson, exchanging views on regional developments, strategic ties and cooperation on multilateral platforms, Caliber.Az reports.

During his meeting with Hussein, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Azerbaijan-Iraq relations, as well as cooperation within multilateral frameworks. They emphasised the importance of further strengthening ties based on historically established friendly relations and solidarity, noting that expanded mutual support at regional and international platforms could contribute to closer bilateral relations.

Particular attention was paid to multilateral cooperation, with the ministers exchanging views on upcoming international events, including the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which will be held in Azerbaijan in October. They also discussed opportunities for cooperation within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit scheduled for next year, stressing the importance of coordination and engagement at these multilateral platforms.

The complex regional situation in the Middle East was also among the key topics of the meeting. The Azerbaijani and Iraqi foreign ministers exchanged views on developments in the region and discussed their respective positions on the current situation.

In his meeting with Kombos, Bayramov exchanged views on ongoing efforts to establish peace in the South Caucasus, with the sides emphasising the importance of continued intergovernmental political dialogue. They also discussed the Azerbaijan-EU cooperation agenda, regional developments and ongoing efforts to establish lasting peace in the South Caucasus.

Bayramov also met with US Congressman Joe Wilson to exchange views on the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States. The sides emphasised the development of institutional cooperation with the US Congress to promote long-term regional security, peace and stability, while also highlighting Azerbaijan’s key role in regional processes.
