G7 FMs urge Armenia, Azerbaijan to adhere to peace process
The G7 foreign ministers have called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to adhere to the peace process based on the principles of non-use of force and inviolability of borders.
“We call on Armenia and Azerbaijan to remain fully committed to the peace process to achieve a lasting peace based on the principles of non-use of force, respect for sovereignty, inviolability of borders and territorial integrity,” Report informs citing the final joint statement of the G7 foreign ministers following their three-day meeting on the island of Capri, Italy.
The G7 member states emphasised that further escalation of the situation in the region would be unacceptable and expressed their readiness to promote further constructive meetings at all levels, especially within the established negotiation framework provided by the EU and the US.
The G7 is an informal bloc of industrialized democracies—the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom (UK)—that meets annually to discuss issues such as global economic governance, international security, and energy policy. Proponents say the forum’s small and relatively homogenous membership promotes collective decision-making, but critics note that it often lacks follow-through and excludes important emerging powers.
