Baku, Washington hold talks on security, energy
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has held talks with Brendan Hanrahan, Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs (EUR), on bilateral relations, security, and energy cooperation.
The discussions on September 10 covered the establishment of a strategic working group to prepare a partnership charter, as well as the process of normalising relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
Broader regional and international security issues of mutual concern were also addressed.
Both sides reviewed the history of Azerbaijani–American relations and noted the benefits of cooperation in areas such as security and energy.
They highlighted that high-level contacts in August had played an important role in strengthening ties.
The ministry added that the talks underlined the significance of agreements reached in Washington earlier this year, aimed at advancing Azerbaijan’s peace agenda with Armenia, moving towards the initialling of a peace treaty, and dismantling structures seen as remnants of the past conflict.
