On September 9, 2025, Israel conducted a major airstrike targeting Hamas leadership in Doha, Qatar, marking a significant escalation in the regional conflict. The attack occurred in the Leqtaifiya district, a secure residential area housing the Hamas Political Bureau. Reports indicate that 15 Israeli fighter jets dropped 10 bombs on the compound during a meeting where Hamas officials were reportedly discussing a U.S.-backed Gaza ceasefire proposal.
According to Hamas sources, six people were killed in the strike, including the son of Khalil al-Hayya, his office director, three bodyguards, and a Qatari security officer. However, senior Hamas leaders such as Khaled Mashal and Khalil al-Hayya survived the attack.
Israeli officials justified the operation, named “Summit of Fire,” as a response to recent attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers by Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the strike as “entirely justified.”
