Gakh conference revives dialogue on Western Azerbaijan
A scientific-practical conference titled “Return to Western Azerbaijan — A Historical Necessity” has been held in Azerbaijan’s Gakh district, bringing together official discussions and a vibrant cultural programme to highlight the region’s historical and cultural significance.
The event was organised by the Western Azerbaijan Community in partnership with the Gakh District Executive Power, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The cultural segment included live performances of traditional ashug music, a presentation of Western Azerbaijani cuisine, and exhibitions showcasing the region’s cultural and historical heritage.
Prominent attendees included Head of the Gakh District Executive Power Musa Shakiliyev, MP Ali Masimli, Board Member of the Western Azerbaijan Community and Chair of the Keshishkend District Community, Professor Mahira Huseynova, along with other community leaders and scholars.
Earlier, the Western Azerbaijan Community strongly condemned what it describes as racially discriminatory, slanderous, and biased remarks made by Theodoros Roussopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
The community described Roussopoulos’ comments as “crude and irresponsible,” adding that they once again demonstrate the “moral collapse” of PACE. The Western Azerbaijan Community also addressed the broader European public and political circles, urging resistance against individuals promoting division and racial hostility.
