Georgia moves to tighten regulations on public protests
Georgia is set to introduce stricter regulations governing public demonstrations. The proposed changes aim to enhance public safety and maintain order during protests.
Under the new legislation, organizers of protests held in areas with large crowds will be required to provide advance notification to state authorities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Authorities will be empowered to intervene if a demonstration is deemed to pose a threat to public safety, disrupt public order, impede the functioning of institutions or organizations, or obstruct the movement of people and vehicles. In such cases, officials may propose an alternative location, time, or route for the event.
At the session of the Bureau of the Parliament, a package of legislative amendments was submitted by the majority of MPs, according to which the obligation to warn a state body is being established in the event that an assembly or demonstration is held in a place where people move.
Failure to comply with this instruction will result in liability.
