Georgia reaffirms strong support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity – President Kavelashvili
During an official visit to Azerbaijan, President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kavelashvili emphasised the depth of strategic ties between the two neighbouring nations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Georgia and Azerbaijan firmly support each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for that, I would like to once again express my gratitude to Mr. President,” President Kavelashvili stated.
Highlighting the alignment of interests and long-standing cooperation between the two countries, the Georgian leader said that Tbilisi has always remained a strong and consistent supporter of Azerbaijan’s territorial rights.
Kavelashvili also addressed broader regional challenges and external pressure faced by both nations, underlining the importance of internal unity and mutual trust in confronting such threats.
“Unfortunately, our countries have repeatedly become the target of double standards and interference in internal affairs by foreign forces. Despite numerous efforts, we are resolutely eliminating these threats, ensuring the security and stability of the region,” he noted.
Underscoring the sovereignty of national decision-making, he added: “No third country or organization can know better than us what is good for our peoples. I am glad that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in protecting common interests has intensified.”
Reflecting on the deep-rooted bilateral ties and cultural affinity, Kavelashvili pointed to the strategic understanding that underpins their partnership.
“The special, centuries-old friendship and the joint well-thought-out policies between our countries have enabled us to correctly define the role of our region,” he said.
Expressing optimism about regional development, he concluded with a vision for the South Caucasus built on indigenous values and cooperation: “I am confident that our shared future includes a successful, economically strong, and prosperous South Caucasus region, where our peoples will live together not under so-called liberal values, but in accordance with their own customs and traditions.”
