Georgia relaunches highway tender linking Azerbaijan, Armenia corridors
The Georgian government has reissued an international tender for supervision services related to the construction of major highway sections connecting Rustavi to Tsetili and Algeti to Sadakli, the country’s Road Department under the Ministry of Infrastructure announced.
The supervision contract is valued at approximately €19 million and forms part of a broader infrastructure initiative aimed at upgrading Georgia’s role as a regional transit hub, Caliber.Az reports.
The targeted road sections are strategically important, forming part of the East–West and South–North international transit corridors. These routes link Georgia’s core road network with its borders with Azerbaijan and Armenia, facilitating regional trade and connectivity.
The project envisions the construction of a 61.3-kilometre, four-lane motorway built to international road safety standards. Plans include a concrete road surface, modern lighting systems, 26 bridges, and 11 junctions. The construction work has been divided into four sections.
According to initial timelines, construction is expected to begin in 2025 and proceed in phases over a period of approximately 30 months.
Financing for the project comes primarily from the European Investment Bank (EIB), which has committed €250 million in loans, alongside co-financing from the Georgian state budget. The design of the highway sections was developed by a Dutch engineering firm with support from the World Bank.
