Georgian FM slams EU criticism as meaningless

05 February 2026 14:41

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili has said that criticism coming from Brussels is not substantive and does not meet the standards required for an objective assessment.

She made the remarks on the air of a local TV channel, Caliber.Az reports.

Bochorishvili emphasised that relations between Georgia and the European Union are strategically important for both sides.

She said Georgia and the European Union are mutually dependent, stressing that maintaining healthy relations is vital for both sides in order to protect their respective interests.

“Georgia is a country that needs the European Union, and Georgia is a country that the European Union needs. We, both sides, need each other...,” she said.

Bochorishvili stated that Brussels is currently taking no concrete steps, despite differing positions among EU member states.

She noted that authorities in many countries acknowledge that Georgia is being treated unfairly, which she said does not align with Europe’s interests.

“The blame lies with the modern European bureaucracy, which often damages relations through its statements and actions,” she added.

Bochorishvili also stressed that the Georgian government is focused on the country’s development and on creating better conditions for its citizens.
