Georgian parliament approves new government under PM Kobakhidze
The Georgian Parliament has approved the newly appointed Cabinet of Ministers, led by prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze, and has endorsed its programme for the upcoming four-year term.
In a vote of confidence, 84 MPs supported the new government, with no opposition votes, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The session was attended exclusively by members of the ruling party, Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, as opposition parties continue to reject the results of the parliamentary elections and have boycotted the proceedings.
Earlier, Kobakhidze introduced three new candidates for key ministerial positions.
Maka Bochorishvili has been appointed as the new Foreign Minister, replacing Ilia Darchiashvili. Bochorishvili, who previously chaired the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, takes over at a crucial time in the country's foreign policy.
Anri Okhanashvili, formerly the chair of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, has been appointed Minister of Justice.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture will be led by David Songulashvili, who previously chaired the Economic Committee.
