Georgian parliament speaker slams EU as "false moralist" following US rebuke
Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, has sharply criticized the European Union for overstepping its role in international affairs, accusing Brussels of becoming a “false moralist.”
The remarks come in the wake of a public statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who reminded the EU to refrain from adopting a lecturing tone toward other nations, Caliber.Az reports.
Papuashvili made the comments on Facebook, highlighting what he described as the EU’s excessive interference in matters where it has no mandate.
Rubio had earlier dismissed criticism from some US colleagues concerning Washington’s actions against drug cartels in Latin America, emphasizing that the European Union has no authority to dictate how the United States should protect itself against national security threats.
Papuashvili remarked: “When even the US Secretary of State is forced to publicly tell Brussels to stop lecturing other countries, it becomes clear that Brussels has already immersed itself too deeply in the role of a false moralist. That’s exactly what we want to point out!”
