Iran reports arrest of 65 suspects accused of espionage and attacks
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence unit in Markazi province has reported the arrest of 65 individuals it describes as foreign mercenaries and members of terrorist networks, according to the Mehr news agency.
The statement details that one of the detainees had been working at a strategically significant facility within the province. Authorities allege that the individual was gathering sensitive information intended for transfer to an intelligence officer linked to Israel, with the purpose of carrying out sabotage operations. The IRGC said the suspect was detained before any attack could be executed, crediting the intervention to covert forces referred to as the Imam Zaman militias.
In a separate case, security services arrested five individuals accused of conducting propaganda activities targeting Iran, including actions directed against national symbols and Islamic religious sites.
The IRGC added that the remaining 59 detainees were involved in supporting hostile operations. According to the statement, their activities included assisting attacks on residential neighbourhoods, public infrastructure, and military installations. They were also accused of participating in the targeting of commanders and government officials, as well as collecting visual and technical data on military and missile-related facilities.
