Global media widely highlights President Aliyev's address at Baku Energy Week
President Ilham Aliyev's speech at the opening of the 29th Caspian Oil & Gas International Exhibition and the 12th Caspian Power and Green Energy International Exhibition—Caspian Power—was widely reported by global media.
According to Azertag, leading Turkish media outlets such as Anadolu, TRT, Haber Global, Yirmidört.tv, Haberler.com, Ekovitrin, and Son Dakika, among others, published numerous articles.
These articles, with headlines like “President Aliyev: Gas Deficit in Azerbaijan Eliminated,” “29th International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition Opens in Baku,” “President Aliyev: Azerbaijan Proven as a Reliable Gas Supplier,” and “President Aliyev at Baku Energy Week: Azerbaijan Supplies Gas to Europe,” highlighted key points from President Aliyev's address.
Quoting President Aliyev, the articles noted that the Shah Deniz project has eradicated Azerbaijan's gas deficit. Currently, eight countries, including six in Europe, import Azerbaijani gas. The European Commission has recognized Azerbaijan as a pan-European gas supplier. Turkish media quoted President Aliyev stating, “This year, gas exports are likely to exceed 24 billion cubic meters. Azerbaijan has proven itself a reliable partner in gas supply.”
President Aliyev's remarks emphasized that all contracts signed over the past 30 years have been fully honoured. “All of them were ratified by the parliament and acquired the force of law. Not a single word in them has been changed. This trust built over decades has led to rapid development, now in the renewable energy sector,” he said, as quoted by Turkish media.
His statements on renewable energy potential in liberated territories also garnered significant attention. “By the end of 2027, we will have 2 gigawatts of renewable energy resources. This is a realistic target and just the beginning,” President Aliyev noted.
Additionally, Aliyev pointed out the hydropower potential in the liberated regions of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur. Since their liberation in November 2020, several hydroelectric power plants with a combined capacity of 270 megawatts have been commissioned. This capacity is expected to reach 500 megawatts within three to five years, eventually saving about 500 million cubic meters of natural gas annually.
Turkish media underscored the significance of Baku Energy Week, first held in 1994, in attracting foreign direct investment to Azerbaijan's energy sector. With 300 companies from over 30 countries participating, the exhibitions showcase cutting-edge technologies for oil and gas production and transportation.
Russian media also covered Aliyev's speech extensively, focusing on the expansion of gas export geography. President Aliyev highlighted that eight countries, including six in Europe, currently import Azerbaijani gas. He added, “We are actively negotiating with several countries needing Azerbaijani gas to secure their energy needs,” as reported by the TASS news agency.
Economic Information Agency PRIME quotes the head of state as saying that the volume of gas exports from Azerbaijan this year will exceed 24 billion cubic metres.
Oil and Capital publication writes that Azerbaijan will introduce 2 GW of renewable energy capacity in 5 years. The material of the publication, devoted to the speech of the President of Azerbaijan, also says that Karabakh and East Zangezur regions have huge hydropower potential.
Vestnik Kavkaza Agency publishes excerpts from the speech of the President of Azerbaijan, emphasising that all agreements signed by Azerbaijan over the past 30 years have been fully implemented. Due to this, the republic has managed to develop green energy and production of renewable resources. “Azerbaijan's gas deficit has been eliminated through the Shah Deniz project,” the agency added.
Spanish-language media also published articles about Baku Energy Week and the speech of the Azerbaijani head of state. Articles on Spanish media resources, including Invest.com and El Periódico de la Energía, as well as on the Swiss Spanish-language portal Swissinfo, noted that today Azerbaijani gas is exported to eight countries, six of which are located in Europe, spoke about Azerbaijan's plans to expand the geography of gas exports and about active negotiations on the supply of Azerbaijani gas to several more countries. The articles particularly stress that this year the volume of Azerbaijani gas exports will be more than 24 billion cubic metres, citing information that the TAP pipeline commissioned in December 2020 transports Azerbaijani gas from fields in the Caspian Sea to Europe and is part of the Southern Gas Corridor. In addition, the publications noted that in 2023 Azerbaijan transported 11.8 billion cubic metres of gas to Europe through TAP, of the planned volume of 24 million cubic metres of gas, Europe accounted for about 12 billion cubic metres, and in 2021 the figure exceeded 8 billion cubic metres. Spanish-language media paid special attention to the words of President Ilham Aliyev that Azerbaijan is stepping up efforts to increase gas supplies through TAP.
Attaqa.net, an authoritative Arabic-language publication, devoted its publications to the speech of the President of Azerbaijan, events held within the Baku Energy Week and Azerbaijan's green energy policy. The publication notes that Azerbaijan organised the prestigious event with the participation of about 300 companies from more than 30 countries at a time of energy crisis around the world, and the Presidents of the United States and Türkiye sent congratulatory letters on the occasion of such a grandiose event. The articles talk about the intention of the head of the Azerbaijani state to increase the export of Azerbaijani gas, as well as the steps taken by Azerbaijan to utilise the potential of renewable energy sources. In this regard, quotations from the speech of President Ilham Aliyev are cited in which the significant hydroelectric potential of liberated Karabakh and East Zangezur is mentioned. It is noted that after the liberation of the territories, there was built a hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 270 megawatts, and in 3-5 years this figure will reach 500 megawatts.
The articles talk about the development of Azerbaijan's cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources, the laying of foundations of two solar and one wind power plants by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the United Arab Emirates Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber within the framework of Baku Energy Week. In addition, it was noted that SOCAR and Turkish company BOTAŞ signed a number of agreements in the field of natural gas supply, transport and transit.
