Helicopter crashes into hospital building in Türkiye's Mugla, killing four people VIDEO
A helicopter crashed into Mugla Training and Research Hospital in Türkiye’s Muğla city and then fell into an empty area nearby.
Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık confirmed that the crash claimed the lives of four people: two pilots, one doctor, and one medical staff member, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Health, the crash was caused by dense fog. The helicopter collided with the hospital's cafeteria section before the crash. The ambulance helicopter had been scheduled to depart for Antalya earlier, but due to adverse weather conditions, it was unable to take off the day before, on December 21. This morning, the helicopter attempted to fly again but, after a short time in the air, it crashed into the hospital building due to heavy fog.
Emergency teams from the fire department, health services, police, and the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) were dispatched to the crash site following reports. The regional director of IHA reported that the helicopter, which was there to transport a patient, had four people aboard, and all four were confirmed dead.
Governor Akbıyık shared further details, stating, "The helicopter collided with the fourth floor of our hospital building. Two pilots, one doctor, and one staff member were killed. According to initial reports, the helicopter was departing for Antalya, and there is no issue inside the hospital. However, there is very dense fog in the area."
The investigation into the incident is ongoing as teams continue their efforts on-site.
