Hezbollah attacks on Lebanese border claim lives of two Israeli soldiers

20 September 2024 10:23

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has said that two Israeli soldiers were killed, and nine others were injured in attacks on the Lebanese border, organised by Hezbollah.

A 43-year-old major, commanding a logistics company from the "Baram" Brigade, was killed, and a soldier was injured after a Hezbollah-launched explosive drone struck the Western Galilee area, Caliber.Az reports, citing the message posted on IDF's website.

Additionally, a 20-year-old sergeant from the 51st Battalion of the "Golani" Brigade was killed, and eight other soldiers were injured when two anti-tank missiles, fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon, hit military positions in the Ramim Ridge area.

With these latest casualties, the total number of Israeli soldiers killed since the beginning of the new wave of Middle Eastern conflict has reached 715, with over 4,400 soldiers wounded. Israel launched massive strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, beginning on September 19 just as the group's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, started delivering a speech about recent events, including explosions involving pagers and portable radios.

The Israeli military announced that its airstrikes had destroyed over 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers that were prepared to fire around 1,000 rockets at Israel simultaneously. Additionally, the IDF claimed to have targeted buildings owned by Hezbollah, as well as weapons and ammunition depots belonging to the group.

"IDF will continue inflicting damage on the terror assets and military infrastructure of Hezbollah terrorist organisation," the message says.

Israeli military aircraft were heard over Beirut, accompanied by loud sonic booms indicating they had broken the sound barrier.
