Hungarian PM pledges strategic support for Azerbaijan
Hungary has affirmed its strategic support for Azerbaijan, signalling close cooperation on regional and energy matters.
Speaking at the 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of Turkic States in Gabala, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán highlighted Budapest’s commitment to closer economic and energy cooperation with Baku, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“I thank President Ilham Aliyev for making it possible to invest in key natural gas and oil fields. This opens the door for Hungarian participation in the market,” Orbán said, emphasising the significance of energy projects for bilateral relations.
The 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) commenced on October 7, 2025, in Gabala, Azerbaijan, under the theme “Regional Peace and Security.”
This gathering marks a significant milestone in the OTS's evolution from a cooperative platform to a prominent geopolitical entity. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the organisation's growing international stature and emphasised the shared historical, ethnic, and spiritual ties among member states.
He also announced a $2 million contribution to the OTS Secretariat to support its initiatives.
The summit brings together leaders from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan, along with observer states and delegations. Discussions focus on enhancing regional cooperation, addressing security challenges, and fostering cultural and economic ties.
