Hungary condemns EP's anti-Azerbaijani resolution jeopardising peace efforts in South Caucasus
Hungary emphasizes that the European Union must adopt a constructive and balanced approach toward both Azerbaijan and Armenia, condemning the European Parliament's latest irresponsible and one-sided resolution
Peter Sztaray, Hungary's State Secretary for Security Policy and Energy Security at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, made this statement in response to a question from Azerbaijani state news outlet Azertac regarding the controversial resolution RC-B10-0133/2024 adopted by the European Parliament on October 23, Caliber.Az reports.
The resolution suggests reducing diplomatic channels with Baku and suspending the "Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the Energy Sector," signed between Azerbaijan and the EU in 2022.
Sztaray expressed concern over these developments, stating, “As Hungary is committed to maintaining communication channels, we are worried about this turn of events and would like to emphasize that a solution ensuring the long-term security of the region cannot be found without the participation of both sides.”
The Hungarian government believes that fair engagement is essential for peace and stability in the South Caucasus region.
He further underscored Hungary's strong support for the development of the EU-Azerbaijan partnership.
