IDF conducts airstrike on UNRWA school in Gaza
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) announced that they conducted an airstrike on a school operated by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the northern Gaza Strip.
“On October 1 night, under IDF guidance and intelligence, the Israeli Air Force executed a precision strike against Hamas terrorists who were operating in a command and control centre near Gaza City,” the IDF stated, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media sources.
The military claimed that the command and control centre, situated within the compound of the former UNRWA Shuja'iyya school, was being used by the terrorists to plan and execute attacks against IDF forces and the State of Israel.
The IDF emphasized that measures were implemented to minimize civilian casualties before the strike, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.
Earlier, the Israeli Air Force targeted the Abu Jaafar Al Mansour school in Gaza, claiming that members of Hamas were taking shelter there. “Prior to the strike, numerous measures were taken to reduce the risk of harm to civilians, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence,” the IDF added.
Israel has also accused Hamas of utilizing civilian infrastructure for military operations.
In a related development, Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref stated that the elimination of Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by Israel would result in the destruction of the country.
The current escalation in the region began on October 7, 2023, when armed Hamas members infiltrated Israeli territory, leading to the deaths of residents in border settlements and the capture of over 240 hostages. In response, Israel launched a military operation aimed at dismantling Hamas's military and political structures and securing the release of hostages.
