India opens pavilion promoting future city vision at WUF13

18 May 2026 21:04

The official opening of the India Pavilion took place on the margins of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).

The pavilion was inaugurated by India’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abhay Kumar, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Organized by India’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the theme “Urban Transformation of India: Enabling Housing for a Billion Dreams,” the pavilion showcases the country’s journey in urban development and transformation. It presents initiatives implemented at the national, state, and city levels, highlighting how innovative policies, programs, and partnerships are shaping people’s lives.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Abhay Kumar emphasized India’s efforts to build inclusive, sustainable, and modern cities. He noted that the pavilion serves as an important platform for collaboration, experience-sharing, and the exchange of innovative ideas among delegates, international partners, and organizations working in urban development.

The pavilion features key programs such as “Housing for All” (PMAY), Swachh Bharat Mission, AMRUT, the Smart Cities Mission, the National Urban Livelihoods Mission, and PM SVANidhi. These initiatives address housing, infrastructure development, employment, and sustainable development.

The exhibition also demonstrates how cities are advancing the Sustainable Development Goals through innovation, data-driven governance, climate-resilient solutions, and public participation. Interactive zones allow visitors to share their views and ideas about future cities.

The main goal of the India Pavilion is to present the creation of an ecosystem that brings together multiple stakeholders and promotes the development of a model for future cities.
