India's Modi to skip annual SCO Summit in Kazakhstan in July

23 June 2024 14:56

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided against attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kazakhstan, originally scheduled for July 3-4, 2023.

The cancellation, attributed to scheduling conflicts with the first session of India's Parliament, contrasts with Modi's previous attendance at six out of seven SCO summits since 2014, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

This decision impacts India's direct engagement with SCO members like China and Pakistan amid ongoing regional tensions and underscores India's strategic autonomy in balancing global alliances.
