Interior Ministry: Some Garabagh Armenians apply for Azerbaijani citizenship
Azerbaijani Interior Ministry Spokesman, Lt-Col Elshad Hajiyev, has said that some Garabagh residents of Armenian origin have applied for Azerbaijani citizenship.
"Any resident of Armenian descent living in this territory can apply for this, their cases are at the centre of attention," Caliber.Az quotes Hajiyev as saying.
In the meantime, speaking about local anti-terrorist measures in Garabagh, the spokesman said the successful implementation of comprehensive measures within the framework of anti-terrorist measures in the Garabagh economic region of Azerbaijan gives grounds to say that full control over the situation is being exercised in this region, with the complete decriminalization efforts being continued in the region.
He noted that comprehensive measures continue to be implemented in Shusha together with the servicemen of the Defence Ministry and employees of the Interior Ministry, as well as specialized state structures to ensure the implementation of the laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan and improve the crime situation in the region.
"The main attention is directed to the full maintenance of public order, legality and security in the territory. The remnants of Armenian armed formations found here, as well as ammunition, are handed over to their destination. One of the most important requirements is to fully ensure the safety of the civilian population," Hajiyev said.
"Just like citizens living in other regions of Azerbaijan, the safety and protection of the rights of the Armenian residents of Garabagh are at the centre of attention."
According to Hajiyev, necessary support is provided to the residents: "The tents of the Foreign Ministry are set up in Fuzuli, Kalbajar and Aghdam. They are also provided with daily meals."
