Rear Admiral: Iran achieves self-sufficiency in defence, producing 90% of its own military gear
Iranian Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has stated that over 90 per cent of Iran’s defence equipment is locally produced.
As the deputy commander of the Iranian Army for coordination, Sayyari emphasised that the Iranian Armed Forces are fully capable of meeting their own defence requirements. Iran no longer depends on foreign nations for military equipment, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
He outlined that various combat and defence weapons are produced using domestic expertise across all branches of the military. Iran’s Ground Forces manufacture a wide range of weapons, while the Air Defense Force produces radars and defence systems.
The Air Force is responsible for producing various types of aircraft, and the Navy manufactures rocket launchers, destroyers, and submarines. Additionally, the country has access to cutting-edge technology to develop drones and cyber systems. This shift means that Iran no longer relies on foreign countries for weapons or weapon components, ensuring self-sufficiency in defence.
In recent years, Iran has significantly advanced its military self-sufficiency, shifting from dependence on foreign suppliers to producing the vast majority of its defence equipment domestically. This transformation is driven by a combination of political, economic, and strategic factors, including the desire to circumvent international sanctions and enhance national security.
