Iran, Azerbaijan eye broader energy cooperation

14 October 2024 17:29

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has met with Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafaev, signalling a commitment to enhancing relations between the two countries.

Pezeshkian expressed his support for any initiatives that foster development and collaboration, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

During the meeting, the Iranian president welcomed the establishment of new railway and road routes between Iran and Azerbaijan.

He also highlighted the desire to continue and expand cooperation in the fields of energy and agriculture.

Furthermore, Pezeshkian assured that Iran would closely monitor the judicial proceedings related to the recent attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran. He emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring that all legal processes regarding the incident are fully addressed.

This statement follows a tragic event on January 27, 2023, when an armed assailant stormed the Azerbaijani embassy, killing the head of security with Kalashnikov rifle and injuring two other guards. In the aftermath of the attack, the embassy suspended its operations in Tehran.
