Iran backs Armenia-Azerbaijan dialogue, urges Caucasian leadership for stability
In a recent briefing held in Yerevan alongside Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the strategic importance of peace in the Caucasus and underlined his country's support for the ongoing peaceful dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
President Pezeshkian articulated Iran’s firm stance on regional stability, stressing that peace and tranquility for neighboring countries, particularly Armenia, remain a priority, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
He highlighted that integration and friendship are the most effective foundations for lasting peace, reaffirming Iran’s consistent defence of Armenia’s territorial integrity and its opposition to the use of force in the region.
Significantly, Pezeshkian asserted that leadership of the Caucasus should be entrusted to regional actors themselves, cautioning against involving external powers, which he believes only serve to complicate an already delicate situation. He further stressed that for Iran, the stability of the Caucasus is a matter of strategic significance.
The Iranian president also underlined Tehran’s support for the peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stressing the importance of maintaining the inviolability of existing state borders to prevent the escalation of geopolitical tensions.
