Iran calls for “reciprocal and responsible” action from Europe on nuclear issue
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned the recent attacks on the country and the damage caused to its nuclear facilities, describing them as “a dark and perilous chapter in the history of the non-proliferation regime.”
Araghchi, attending the annual United Nations General Assembly in New York, met on September 23 with the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
The meeting was also attended by Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
During the discussions, officials reviewed the diplomatic efforts of the past month aimed at resolving Iran’s nuclear issue and preventing further escalation of tensions. Araghchi elaborated on Iran’s principled positions and detailed the concrete steps the country has taken in recent months to dispel any doubts or pretexts concerning its nuclear program.
Highlighting Iran’s recent initiative to reach an understanding with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding its safeguards obligations under new circumstances, Araghchi stressed the importance of “reciprocal and responsible action” by European partners.
The meeting also addressed the “unjustified and unlawful” attempts to reimpose previously annulled Security Council sanctions on Iran. Various proposals for continuing diplomatic engagement were discussed, with all parties agreeing that consultations should continue with all stakeholders to pursue a peaceful resolution.
