Iran denounces Israeli strike on Gaza school as war crime
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli military's recent strike on the Al-Taba'een school in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the deaths of 93 Palestinians.
Spokesman Nasser Kanaani described the attack as both a war crime and an act of genocide, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
In a statement released by the Iranian foreign ministry, Kanaani condemned the ongoing Israeli military operations targeting Palestinian civilians, including women and children. He accused Israel of showing utter disregard for international law and ethical standards with its continued assaults. The strike on the Al-Taba'een school, which was being used as a refuge for displaced Palestinians, was particularly denounced as a horrific attack on innocent civilians.
Kanaani argued that the international community must take decisive action against what he termed the "brutal regime" of Israel. He called on Islamic and freedom-loving nations to bolster support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate resistance against Israeli occupation and aggression. Additionally, he urged the United Nations Security Council and other global organizations to hold Israel accountable for its actions, highlighting the need for international intervention to address what he characterized as egregious violations of human rights.
On the morning of August 10, the Israeli military announced an airstrike on the Gaza Strip, targeting what it claimed was the headquarters of Hamas's militant wing. According to the Israeli forces, this command centre was located within the premises of the Al-Taba'een school in the Daraj Tuffah area of Gaza City, where they reported the presence of militants.
