Iran denounces US military actions in Yemen, defends support for Palestinians
In a statement issued on May 5, Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly refuted accusations suggesting a link between Yemen's actions and Iran's influence, calling them “misleading and deceptive.”
The ministry emphasised that Yemen’s stance is based on its solidarity with Palestinians, labelling any attempt to connect this position to Iran as an effort to divert attention from Israel's ongoing war crimes in Gaza, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
“It is, in fact, the United States military that has entered a war against the people of Yemen to support the genocide committed by the Zionist regime, and has committed war crimes by targeting civilian infrastructure in various Yemeni cities,” the statement read.
The ministry reiterated that Yemen’s support for Palestinians is “an independent decision, rooted in the Yemeni people’s human and Islamic solidarity with their Palestinian brothers and sisters.” It dismissed claims that Iran is behind this stance, describing such allegations as “deceptive” and aimed at justifying further regional instability.
The statement also underscored Iran’s longstanding position on territorial integrity, asserting that the US military’s actions in Yemen constitute a “blatant violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental rules of international law.” Iran denounced the US strikes as contributing to regional insecurity.
In its conclusion, the ministry warned of the “dangerous consequences” of continued US military strikes in the region, specifically highlighting security risks in West Asia and the Red Sea. It reiterated that the root cause of instability is the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Palestine.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns recent threats made by the United States and the Zionist regime against our homeland,” the statement added, before stressing that Iran holds both Washington and Tel Aviv accountable for the repercussions of any aggression against its territory.
