Iran eyes to import 10 million tons of wheat from Russia per year
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari has said that Iran seeks to increase the volume of wheat imports from Russia to 10 million tons per year.
Earlier, the Iranian and Russian leaders agreed that the volume of grain that Tehran would buy from Moscow "would be very big", Russia’s Gazeta.ru reports referring to Safari’s statement.
“I think that Iran will be able to import up to 10 million tons of wheat from Russia,” the Iranian deputy foreign minister said.
He noted that in exchange for grain imports, the Iranian side will continue supplying pistachios, fruits, vegetables and other food products to Russia.
Head of the Russian Grain Union Arkady Zlochevsky said that Iran had overtaken Egypt and Türkiye in terms of purchases of Russian grain in late 2021.
Tehran bought 5.66 million tons of grain crops, including wheat and corn, from Moscow as of late November 2021.
