Iran hails Azerbaijan as first to step in with humanitarian support

04 April 2026 10:05

Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou, has thanked Azerbaijan for its support, emphasising that it was the first country to provide humanitarian assistance to Iran amid the ongoing conflict.

Speaking to journalists, as reported by local media, Demirchilou said that a third shipment of humanitarian aid was dispatched from Azerbaijan to Iran on April 4.

“This demonstrates the solidarity of the government and people of Azerbaijan. At a time when Iran is under military attack, such support is very important for us. Azerbaijan is the first country to send humanitarian aid to Iran,” he stated.

The remarks come against the backdrop of escalating regional tensions. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, resulting in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials.

In response, Iran has carried out strikes against Israel and has also targeted sites in countries hosting US and allied military bases, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus.
