Axios: Iran halts diplomatic messaging with US via Oman
Iran has stopped exchanging diplomatic messages with the United States through Oman, Axios reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.
“At the moment there are no serious negotiations between the U.S. and Iran,” the outlet said, adding that Tehran does not plan to strike a deal with Washington.
On January 28, U.S. President Donald Trump said he hoped Iranian representatives would come to the negotiating table and agree to abandon nuclear weapons, warning that time was “running out” for Iran.
In late December 2025, Iran was hit by a wave of mass protests triggered by the sharp depreciation of the national currency, the Iranian rial. Iranian authorities have blamed external forces for the unrest, with the Foreign Ministry accusing the United States and Israel of being involved in organising the protests.
Trump, for his part, urged Iranians to continue protesting and said that “help is on its way,” according to Russian media reports.
Earlier, Iranian officials stated that the country was prepared for war if negotiations with the United States were to take place.
