Iran highlights strategic importance of EAEU in foreign and economic policy
Iran has described the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as holding a special place in its foreign policy and economic diplomacy, according to Iranian officials.
Speaking at the EAEU summit in Astana, Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, Seyed Mohammad Atabak, said Tehran’s engagement with the bloc reflects its growing role in regional economic integration, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
He pointed to the free trade agreement between Iran and EAEU member states, as well as Iran’s observer status within the organisation, as evidence of what he called “effective participation” in the union’s activities.
“Today’s meeting demonstrates the shared determination of Iran and EAEU countries to expand strategic cooperation in various fields such as energy, industry, trade, transport, and new technologies,” Atabak said.
He added that the current level of trade did not reflect the full potential of cooperation between Iran and the bloc, expressing confidence that economic ties would continue to expand.
“I am convinced that our trade potential is significantly higher than current figures, and this dynamic will continue. God willing, we will witness a real breakthrough in mutual trade,” he said.
