Iran maintains vessel coordination requirement in Hormuz
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy continues to require vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz to coordinate with its forces, despite the reported lifting of the US blockade in the strategic waterway.
The IRGC Navy has reiterated its longstanding position that all ships seeking to transit the Strait of Hormuz must coordinate their movements with Iranian naval authorities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Iranian vessels are currently navigating the strait without restrictions. Three Iranian oil tankers are presently operating in the northern Indian Ocean, while two additional vessels have already departed for ports along Iran’s southern coastline.
Earlier, officials from the United States, Iran, and Pakistan—which has been acting as a mediator—confirmed that Washington and Tehran had reached an agreement. The accord is scheduled to be formally signed in Geneva on June 19.
Iranian officials stated that, during the 60-day period following the signing of the memorandum, the parties will engage in discussions on a range of issues, including Tehran’s nuclear program.
