Iran MP slams official media for distorting US agreement details
An Iranian lawmaker has publicly criticised a parliamentary media outlet over its coverage of a draft agreement between Iran and the United States, accusing it of publishing inaccurate information that risks misleading the public and complicating diplomatic sensitivities.
In a statement posted on X on Friday, legislator Meysam Zohourian said the official media arm of the Iranian parliament had released text on the proposed Iran–US agreement that contained “irresponsible” and factually incorrect claims.
He said the publication incorrectly suggested that the draft accord included recognition of Iran’s right to enrich uranium and provisions for the immediate release of frozen Iranian assets at the start of implementation. “These are not included in the actual text,” he wrote, warning that such claims could create false expectations among the public and lead to disappointment once the final document is released.
Zohourian also argued that the publication had triggered diplomatic friction, prompting a reaction from the opposing side and a denial from Iran’s foreign minister. He added that US President Donald Trump had subsequently interpreted the clarification as an apology from Tehran.
