Iran thanks Pakistan for mediating US talks
Iran has expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its mediation efforts in talks with the United States and said it intends to continue contacts with Islamabad, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, as reported by Tasnim News Agency.
“We thank them for their kind hospitality and are confident that contacts between Iran, Pakistan, and our other friends in the region will continue,” the diplomat said.
The April 11 talks in Islamabad represented the first high-level direct contact between the United States and Iran since the outbreak of the 2026 conflict, with Pakistan serving as the main mediator. The negotiations formed part of a wider ceasefire arrangement agreed only days earlier, designed to stabilize the fragile truce and prevent further escalation.
The discussions took place in a tightly controlled diplomatic setting at a secure venue in Islamabad, following preparatory shuttle diplomacy conducted by Pakistani officials with both delegations. The agenda covered ceasefire verification mechanisms, regional security assurances, and maritime issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.
Following the talks, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the meeting ended without any agreement between the parties, while J. D. Vance, Vice President of the United States, confirmed that the discussions concluded without a deal.
